Introducing Knowsley Community Transport
Posted: 16 Apr 2014
HCT Group is working in partnership with Knowsley Council and local partners, in Merseyside, on a pilot project to develop Community Transport in the area.
The idea behind the pilot is to test innovative new ways for community transport to help people in Knowsley to get out and about – testing whether vehicles that might be used to deliver services can also be used by the community– and whether vehicles used by the community can also be used to deliver services. This aims to establish a financially sustainable way of providing essential and high social impact community services.
The focus of the pilot is collaboration. We’ll be working closely with the Local Authority and the community itself - service users, parents, teachers, day centre staff, other local third sector organisations and service providers – who will all have a stake in the project, working out and testing transport ideas together. The pilots will trial different approaches to see what works.
To deliver the project – initially set to run for a year with a grant from the Knowsley Foundation – we are establishing Knowsley Community Transport – part of the HCT Group but focussed solely on Knowsley’s needs.
Dai Powell, HCT Group Chief Executive, said “We’re delighted to be working with Knowsley Council on a project that is taking a really innovative approach to service design – looking at transport on a whole-place level and putting the community and social impact at the heart of its strategy.”
