Minibus Hire for Schools
We recognise that schools have the need to be able to access vehicles that can be used to assist with the transport of their pupils. This could be for day trips, for travel to/from residential experiences, or for a myriad of other reasons. In most cases, however, the need for this service is only occasional, and thus the cost of operating and maintaining your own vehicle for this purpose makes it prohibitive. Or, if you do operate your own minibus(es) you may need to occasionally have access to additional vehicles. We have access to a fleet of specialist vehicles. Vehicles range from 11 seats to 16 seats, and there are plans to add cars to the fleet as well. Vehicles have a range of specialist equipment including vehicles being wheelchair accessible, with vehicles having ramps and lifts to ease access. If you own/operate your own minibus you also have the hassle and expense of vehicle maintenance, insurance, safety checks, breadown cover, MOT, cleaning, as well as fuel costs and where to park your vehicle. We're offering you access to a range of accessible vehicles on a "pay-as-you-go" basis. Our solution is simple; you hire a vehicle from us for only the hours that you need. We take away from you all the worries about owning and maintaining the vehicle; you just need to worry about planning your trip and who you're going to take. We also have a team of drivers that can drive the minibus for you; alternatively you can provide your own suitably trained driver (we can arrange the training). Vehicles are maintained to a high standard. At the beginning and end of every hire the vehicle undergoes a 60 point safety check. Every week a comprehensive safety check is undertaken reviewing a series of safety considerations. This is supplemented with a mechanical check including every two months. This is backed up with comprehensive breakdown cover, and an annual ‘MOT’ test.
Vehicles have been adapted to meet specific needs. All vehicles have full seat belts. Depending on the specific needs of wheelchair users they can either transfer to one of the seats in the vehicle or travel in their wheelchair (which will be securely attached to the minibus). Childrens ‘booster’ seats and child seats are available on request.
You can either provide your own driver (we can provide the training) or we can allocate one of our team of trained and experienced drivers. Most of our drivers have years of experience of driving minibuses, and ensuring the safety of their passengers. The drivers are all trained to the nationally-recognised “MiDAS” standard endorsed by the Community Transport Association and the Royal Society for the Protection of Accidents. In addition, the drivers are trained in ‘customer care’ to help ensure an enjoyable journey.
Drivers wear BCT uniform.
We would expect a representative of the school to accompany their pupils and to act as the ‘passenger escort’ to provide support as required for the passengers and driver.
Our charging structure works on an hourly pay-as-you-go basis, plus a per mile charge based on mileage. There is an additional charge if you use one of our drivers.
